THIS TITHE IS ALIVE! - In God We Trust, Part 2 09.18.16 Mat Cotner Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. The Word Tithe In Hebrew Means: A Tenth Or 10% Leviticus 27:30 & 32 NIV A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD... Every tithe of the herd and flock, every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod, will be holy to the Lord. 2. It Belongs To The Lord Malachi 3:6-10(a) NIV “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house...” 3. It Comes First Leviticus 27:26 NIV No one, however, may dedicate the firstborn of an animal, since the firstborn already belongs to the LORD – See Also Ex 13:12-15 Ex 22:29-30, Ex 23:19, Num 3:13, Num 8:16 4. It Is Holy To The Lord Leviticus 27:28 NIV But nothing that a person owns and devotes to the LORD — whether a human being or animal or family land — may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD. Old Testament vs. New Testament: Why So Much Controversy? Old Testament = You HAVE TO or you will be punished! Vs. New Testament = You GET TO and you will be rewarded! 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NIV Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. What happens when we give God what is His setting it apart as first and holy? Malachi 3:10(b) NIV ...Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
